(Or how to get rid of that e-bike)
Not that long ago, a colleague and I talked about the the love-hate relationship that people in Amsterdam have with VanMoof bicycles. Ohh the sheer joy of making the alarm go off. Not even a day later, an article appeared in the Dutch newspaper Parool about the very same. This was soon followed by a proposal presented to the Amsterdam city council to reduce the speedlimit for e-bikes to 20 km per hours on cycle paths, taking all the fun out of riding your e-bike in Amsterdam. As it requires a change in legislation, the Amsterdam city council would have to negotiate with 'The Hague'.
And for now you can still ride your e-bike here in The Hague. Also, VanMoofs, which do not come cheap, do not seem to have divided the city yet, or maybe people here resort to other, more affordable options. I usually do not take own e-bike into the city. I prefer my decrepit bicycle as it is the least likely one to get stolen. Yet I would not mind an upgrade.
Now that e-bikes seem to be losing much of their fun value in Amsterdam anytime soon, perhaps this is a good time to trade in their bike, preferably to a dealer in The Hague. We will be happy to ride your bike here, but keep your design pannier of course. That is, if you have one.
